Airbus PC Simulation  Optional Extras

View Google Earth whilst flying the simulation

Forward view, Left and Right side view and map view available.

View Google Earth in  the same PC or a networked PC

This optional extra takes advantage of the Google Earth’s ability to be driven in slave mode. Positional information is passed from the simulation to a Google Earth running in a slave mode. Thus the Google Earth view matches the current simulated aircraft’s position. The Add On allows for 4 view points, forward, down left and right.

This add on is not for the computer shy, however. The Google Earth programmers have not allowed for any external interfaces and some manipulation of the Google Earth Ini files are needed, as well as some awareness of network IP addressing. A full description of the process can be found at liquid-galaxy web site.

To get this add on to work the following steps must be taken :

A version of Google Earth at version 6.1 or later must exist

The drivers.ini file of Google Earth must be modified

The Ethernet IP address of the PC/Laptop where Google Earth is running must be known

Some points to consider

To run Google Earth and the simulation on the same computer requires a powerful processor. Frame overruns may occur and this will show up as a steppy visual update.

There is currently a fault with Google Earth in terms of its synchronization to an external drive. Sometimes the Add On driver and or Google Earth need to be started several times before the Google Earth eventually accepts the external driver input.

The Add On works by interfacing with the shared memory of the simulator on one side and transmitting the positional data via Ethernet on the other. It is therefore vitally important to have the correct version of shared memory working in both the simulator and the Add On.

Be aware that after several hours Google Earth may have produced a very large cache file on your computer, depending upon your Google Earth options.

Sorry, this optional extra is no longer available, as Google now demands that an account is set up and payment made every time Google Earth is used in anything other than their own application. Their interface has now also been changed.
